RCC Library Instruction

The library staff offers instruction in the use of information
resources. Instruction is customized to individual classes.

May be taught separately or in conjunction with Introduction to Online Catalog

Introduction to Online Catalog (iLink)*

Demonstrates how to locate books, videos, etc. using the iLink online public access catalog

30 minutes

May be taught separately or in conjunction with the Library Tour

Introduction to NC Live*

Teaches basics of using NC Live databases to locate citations, abstracts, and/or full-text magazine, journal, and newspaper articles.  Covers both the logic and mechanics of searching.  Students also learn how to print, download, and email citations/articles.

50 minutes

Additional time is needed if students are to have time to research their own topics

Specific online database*

Provides an in-depth look at a single subject-specific online database such as Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center, CINAHL Plus, Literature Resource Center, etc.

50 minutes

Introduction to the Internet*

Covers search strategies (including Boolean) and Web site evaluation

50 minutes

Subject specific*

Teaches use of print and online reference materials for particular assignments such as literary criticism

20-50 minutes

Length based on the nature and extent of materials needed to complete assignment
