Find Books

iLink is the RCC Online Catalog of all the materials available in the RCC Library. Also included are the holdings of 46 other community college libraries that make up the Community Colleges Libraries in North Carolina consortium (CCLINC).  You can search the catalog by author, keyword, title, periodical title, series, or subject. 

  1. You can borrow materials belonging to other libraries via Place a Hold (requires your student ID or library card barcode number).
  2. You can renew books, check due dates, and review fines by clicking on My Account (requires your student ID or library card barcode number).
  3. You can search the Reserve Desk to locate materials by Instructor, Course Number or Course Name.  Reserve materials are located at the library Circulation Desk.
  4. The library maintains many more resources than those recommended below, so it is important to browse the shelves around the call number to locate other relevant resources.

NC LIVE (selected databases)

Academic Search Premier Multi-disciplinary full text database containing full text for nearly 4,700 publications, including more than 3,600 peer-reviewed publications.

CQ Researcher Online reports offering in-depth, non-biased coverage of political and social issues, with regular reports on topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the U.S. economy.

ERIC (Education) – Indexes over 750 journals in the field of education from 1966 to present. Includes full text of ERIC Digests from 1967 to present.

Master File Premier – General magazines, journals, and newspapers covering many subjects.

North Carolina Education Directory Contains addresses and phone numbers of every North Carolina public, federal or charter school and public school system, all employees of the Department of Public Instruction, contact information for education organizations, associations, North Carolina commissions, and educational material suppliers.
 
Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center - Provides a one-stop source of information on social issues; includes viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites and full-text magazine/newspaper articles.

Head Start Bureau  
"Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs that serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. … [These programs] have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families." This site features information about projects and services, grants, research and statistics, budget and policy, and training. Searchable. From the Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Idea Box: Early Childhood Education & Activity Resources  
Includes “Activities,” “Seasonal” activities, "Games,” "Music and Songs,"  and “Craft Recipes." The site is not searchable, but lists are alphabetical and easy to use.

Internet resources selected and evaluated by professional librarians. Searchable & browsable.

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)  
NAEYC, the “nation’s largest and most influential organization of early childhood educators” provides information about early childhood issues, program/higher education accreditation, public policy, as well as information for students, teachers, and families. Membership required to access some content.

National Center for Early Development & Learning (NCEDL)  
NCEDL "is a national early childhood research project supported by the US Department of Education's Institute for Educational Sciences (IES)." It "focuses on enhancing the cognitive, social and emotional development of children from birth through age eight." This site features case studies, reports, fact sheets, and other research documents on topics such as child development, early childhood education, and education policy. Includes related links. Searchable.

School District Demographics  
"Access to school district geographic and demographic data" from the 2000 and 1990 United States censuses. Data may be compared between districts and states. From the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) of the U.S. Department of Education.

Smart Start-North Carolina 
“Smart Start is a public-private initiative that provides early education funding to all of the state's 100 counties” and provides information for parents, statistics about young children, as well as information on current early childhood issues.
